Good Afternoon,

Please see the announcement below regarding a new interdisciplinary funding opportunity from IARPA and an upcoming event to learn more about it. The program aims to develop technology to provide automated suggestions to intelligence analysts to help them improve the evidence and reasoning in their analytic reports and will benefit from contributions of computer scientists, social scientists, and experts in philosophy, argumentation and logic. More information on the program and the upcoming proposers’ day can be found in the synopsis below:

New IARPA Program Announced to Explore Advances in Artificial Intelligence

Interested Applicants Invited to Present Lightening Talks

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) has announced the REASON (Rapid Explanation, Analysis and Sourcing Online) Program. REASON aims to develop novel technologies that automatically generate comments enabling intelligence analysts to substantially improve the evidence and reasoning in their analytic reports. REASON will assist and enhance analysts’ work by pointing them to key pieces of evidence beyond what they have already considered and by helping them determine which alternative explanations have the strongest support. As a result, decision-makers will receive analytic reports with the highest accuracy, clarity, and timeliness. Successful REASON proposals will assemble teams with diverse expertise and capabilities. Teams will conduct research and development to build systems that will be evaluated by an independent testing and evaluation (T&E) team.

IARPA will host a Proposers’ Day event on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM for potential applicants interested in learning more about the program. The REASON Proposers’ Day is a hybrid meeting with limited seating for in-person attendees in Northern Virginia. Registration deadline is January 6, 2023, by 12 PM. The event will include a presentation about REASON, a Q&A session, lightning talks, and opportunities to identify teaming partners. Participants are welcome to present lightning talks. Lightning talk presentations should be submitted to dni-iarpa-REASON-proposers-day@iarpa.gov  by January 6 at 12 PM for approval. As an option to facilitate teaming, potential proposers may submit a Capabilities Statement (5 pages maximum) and a completed Teaming Information Form to IARPA for possible posting on the REASON website.
