Since the BRAIN Initiative's launch in 2013, FAS Research Development has disseminated information via this newsletter about all of the funding opportunities related to the initiative. We send this newsletter to a targeted list of faculty, including faculty affiliates of the Center for Brain Science (CBS) and the Mind Brain Behavior (MBB) Interfaculty Initiative. This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Center for Brain Science. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to interested colleagues. All Harvard University faculty and administrators may subscribe here, and recipients may unsubscribe at any time. In addition, you may access the Science Division Funding Spotlight here. Harvard affiliates also have access to Pivot, a funding opportunity database, and Harvard Link, a system developed by the Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL) to provide personalized suggestions on research funding opportunities. For an archive of past newsletters, or for information about additional Research Development support (finding funding, proposal development resources, etc.), please visit the Research Development website

This FOA supports efforts to disseminate resources for integration into neuroscience research practice. The resource(s) should be relevant to the goals of the BRAIN Initiative as outlined in the "BRAIN 2025: A Scientific Vision" and "The BRAIN Initiative 2.0: From Cells to Circuits, Toward Cures" and shared broadly to the neuroscience community. The resource(s) should address compelling needs of neuroscience researchers that are otherwise unavailable or impractical in their current form. Activities must include dissemination of an existing resource, and may include one or more of the following activities: distribution of tools and reagents; user training on the usage of new technologies or techniques; providing access to existing technology platforms and/or specialized facilities; minor improvements to increase the scale/efficiency of resource production and delivery; minor adaptations to meet the needs of a user community. Applications primarily focused on technology or software development and where broad dissemination is not planned to be initiated by year 2 are not responsive to this FOA.

Applications are not limited to existing BRAIN Initiative investigators or to technologies previously developed using BRAIN Initiative or NIH funds, nor must the end user community be limited to investigators with BRAIN Initiative funding. End users may include those studying disease relevant mechanisms. Projects should address compelling needs of broad communities of investigators or should justify the impact and unmet opportunity of providing the services at smaller scales.

FAS/SEAS/OSP Deadline: 5 business days prior to submission

Sponsor Deadline: Rolling through April 1, 2022

Award Information: Individual requests can be no more than $100,000 in direct costs exclusive of Facilities and Administrative costs on sub-contracts and may be for one year only.

The purpose of this Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to announce the availability of administrative supplements to integrate neuroethics perspectives and approaches into existing BRAIN Initiative supported research. Supplement applications are encouraged from currently funded BRAIN Initiative projects that can readily incorporate core ethical questions associated with research focused on the human brain related to emerging technologies and advancements in research supported by the BRAIN Initiative. The intent is that efforts supported through this administrative supplement would be both complementary to and integrative with the transformative, breakthrough neuroscience discoveries supported through the BRAIN Initiative. The requested supplemental component(s) must be within the scope of the original aims.

Applications for this initiative must be submitted using the following opportunity or its subsequent reissued equivalent: PA-20-272 - Administrative Supplements to Existing NIH Grants and Cooperative Agreements (Parent Admin Supp Clinical Trial Optional).
