DOE X-Stack: Programming Environments for Scientific Computing

Award Information: DOE National Laboratories may request $250,000-$900,000 per year. Other applicants may request $100,000-$300,000 per year. For collaborative applications, the total budget of the collaboration may not exceed $1,200,000 per year. DOE anticipates making awards with a project period of three years. Approximately four collaborative awards are expected.
The DOE SC program in Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) hereby announces its interest in basic research in computer science exploring innovative approaches to creating, verifying, validating, optimizing, maintaining, and executing scientific software targeting distributed, heterogeneous, high-performance computing platforms.
Each pre-application and application must address at least one of two research areas: 1. automated test synthesis; and/or 2. parallel-programming-model translation.
Please Note: This is a limited submission opportunity. Organizations are limited to submitting two pre-applications or applications in response to this FOA. Further, no more than one pre-application or application may be submitted for each PI at the applicant institution. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating an internal application and selection process. By 11:59 pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, prospective applicants must submit to VPR@Harvard.edu the following:

- PI: Full name, title, school affiliation and CV
- Co-PI(s): Full name(s), title(s), school(s)/institutional affiliation(s), CV(s) as applicable
- Collaborators: Full name(s), title(s), and institution(s), as applicable
- Proposal type: Is this proposal being submitted as a multi-institutional collaborative effort where Harvard is acting as the lead institution? (For more information, see pages 5&6 of the FOA) or is Harvard acting as the lead institution in this proposal, with proposed sub-recipients listed within the application?
- Identification of at least one of the proposal focus areas defined on page 3 of the FOA: automated test synthesis or parallel-programing-model translation
- Based on the focus area(s) identified above, a response to any, or all, of the objectives and tradeoffs articulated by the sponsor on page 3 of the FOA.
Responses are limited to 2 pages, 10-point font minimum. Reference and/or graphics, as applicable, are not included in the page maximum.
