Greetings,

We are excited to share these funding opportunities from Harvard's Mind Brain Behavior (MBB) Interfaculty Initiative. MBB offers grants and fellowships that support faculty, postdocs, and graduate students whose work investigates how the mind, brain, and behavior operate. More information about the awards can be found in the synopses and links below. For a full list of currently open opportunities that have been announced through our office, please visit our Current Opportunities web page. As a reminder, our Research Development team is available to provide proposal development support to FAS ladder faculty.

MBB Interdisciplinary Mind Grants

  • Application Deadlines: November 8, 2026; Spring 2027
  • Award Amount: $2,500-$10,000 for one year
  • Eligibility: Postdoctoral scholars, graduate students

Program Overview

MBB Interdisciplinary Mind Grants are available to Harvard graduate students and postdoctoral trainees doing interdisciplinary work between traditional fields. These grants may support research, conference travel, summer lab exchanges, and other interdisciplinary experiences. Proposed activities must broaden the interdisciplinarity of the applicant's training. Funding decisions will be provided approximately three weeks after submission. See Interdisciplinary Mind Grant FAQs and Interdisciplinary Mind Grant application form on the program's website.

MBB Faculty Fusion Research Grants

  • Application Deadline: February 15, 2027
  • Award Amount: Up to $50,000 for one fiscal year
  • Eligibility: Proposals must be led by at least two Harvard faculty members

Program Overview

MBB Faculty Fusion Research Grants are intended to support interfaculty collaboration. These awards facilitate collaborative studies that bridge insights between research areas and methodologies, like the translational work of porting methods from one discipline into the content area of another. All Harvard faculty members who currently work or wish to work in MBB-related fields are encouraged to apply, and new collaborations are welcome. Proposals must be explicitly cross-disciplinary, involving at least two principals, each from a different discipline. An MBB Faculty Fusion Research Grant can be used to support, for example: personnel (including fringe benefits), research equipment or supplies, study participant costs, or project meetings. If a project requires more than $50,000, complementary support should be secured through other non-MBB funding vehicles. Awards cannot be used as salary support for the Principal Investigator(s) or to cover indirect costs. Funding decisions will be provided approximately four weeks after submission. See Faculty Fusion Research Grant FAQs and Faculty Fusion Research Grant application form on the program's website.

MBB Postdoctoral Fellowships

  • Application Deadline: February 15, 2027
  • Award Amount: Two-year fully funded position
  • Eligibility: Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in an MBB-related field and generally no more than one year of postdoctoral experience

Program Overview

MBB Postdoctoral Fellowships are available to researchers who wants to examine MBB-related issues through interdisciplinary study and experiences. Proposed research projects must bridge at least two classical fields of study, and each Fellow must be sponsored by two Harvard faculty members from different departments or schools. Funds are intended to align with Harvard's fiscal year, i.e., July 1, 2027 to June 30, 2029. Please note that second year funding is conditional upon satisfactory progress at completion of the first year. See recent MBB Postdoctoral Fellows and Postdoctoral Fellowship application form on the program's website.

MBB Community Connect Grants

  • Application Deadline: Rolling
  • Award Amount: Up to $15,000
  • Eligibility: Faculty, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students

Program Overview

MBB Community Connect Grants support the organization of events that include or benefit the MBB community. Proposed events could include a one-time event like a hosted speaker, gathering, or interdisciplinary workshop, or recurring events such as journal clubs or faculty interest groups. Funding decisions will be provided within three weeks of application submission. See Community Connect Grant FAQs and Community Connect Grant application form on the program's website.
