Greetings,
We are excited to share this limited submission opportunity from the Greenwall Foundation. The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. Harvard may put forward one nomination for this funding opportunity. In anticipation of the Foundation's release of the 2027 Request for Proposals (RFP), the Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating an internal process for eligible applicants. Updates to the internal timeline and/or internal application are pending per the sponsor's RFP release. More information about the award and the internal selection process can be found in the synopsis and links below. For a full list of currently open opportunities that have been announced through our office, please visit our new Current Opportunities web page. As a reminder, our Research Development team is available to provide proposal development support to FAS ladder faculty.
- Harvard Pre-Proposal Deadline: July 12, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET
- OSP Deadline for Letter of Intent (LOI), if selected: three business days in advance of the sponsor deadline, at 9:00 AM ET
Departments or areas may require additional time for proposal review and submission. Please discuss a timeline with your departmental or FORA grants administrator.
- Sponsor LOI Deadline, if selected: To be announced
- Award Amount: 50% of a Scholar's salary plus benefits for three years, up to the NIH Salary Cap, with 10% institutional costs for salary and benefits.
- Funding is intended to ensure that at least 50% of the scholar's time is devoted to bioethics research.
- The Greenwall Foundation provides an additional $5,000 each year for limited project support and travel. Indirect costs are not provided for these items. While this falls short of the 15% overhead required by FAS/SEAS policy, these are early career awards so FAS/SEAS recognizes this indirect cost limit and does not require further action, such as a waiver or direct charge of other costs.
Program Overview
The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable early-career faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. It supports research that goes beyond current work in bioethics to help resolve pressing ethical issues in clinical, biomedical, and public health decision-making, policy, and practice, and creates a community that enhances future bioethics research by Scholars and Alums. Each year, the Foundation selects approximately three Greenwall Faculty Scholars to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to carry out a specific research proposal and develop their research program. To see a list of bioethics activities that the Foundation does not fund, please consult the previous RFP.
Eligibility Criteria
