An NSF Ideas Lab is an intensive, interactive, and free-thinking environment where a diverse group of up to 35 participants from a range of disciplines and backgrounds gets together to immerse themselves in collaborative thinking to construct innovative solutions and approaches for tackling challenging problems. The goal of this Ideas Lab is to extend engineering education research to enable advanced personalization in pedagogy and assessment in a K-12 or higher education context. Personalization could address traditional engineering skills, professional skills, psycho-social constructs, and/or other aspects of engineering education. Projects may extend beyond pre-K-12 or college student learning to consider teachers, faculty, institutional, or community learning.
The Ideas Lab in-person meeting will run over three days, tentatively scheduled for the week of February 26, 2024, with virtual activities held over the following week to allow teams to develop their ideas and plan for full proposal submission by May 8, 2024.
Any individual interested in participating in the Ideas Lab must submit a preliminary proposal. Submission of the preliminary proposal will be considered an indication of availability to attend and participate in the full course of the Ideas Lab Workshop.
The Emerging Frontiers and Multidisciplinary Activities (EFMA) Office will host an informational webinar on October 23 at 3 PM to discuss this solicitation and answer questions. Register here.
